I’m baaack!
I did not mean to be MIA for so long, but twin pregnancy has been quite challenging; especially while working full-time and raising a very busy toddler. I can’t believe I’m in my third trimester already! This has simultaneously felt like the longest and shortest pregnancy so far.
A couple of weeks ago now we moved into a new house! This is such an exciting step for our family as we have been in apartments until now. We are so excited to have some much needed additional space and a yard for our family. We are still getting settled around and while I’ve been away from the blog for so long, it’s something I still think about all the time and I’m excited to be back as I’m starting to feel a bit more like myself these days.
With being in a new house comes decorating. I’m really excited for this, but it’s going to have to be something we take our time with. So, I thought it would be nice to share some of my tips for making your home feel cozy in the winter.
We are homebodies, and I’m feeling that even more so with our new space and impending arrivals. My goal is always to make our home feel cozy and welcoming no matter the season; though this is especially true in the fall and winter months. Here are some simple things I like to do:
Layering Textiles
Some additional throw pillows and/or blankets on the couch can be functional and stylish this time of year. Opting for heavier fabrics like velvet or corduroy throw pillows and faux-fur throw blankets look especially cozy for winter.
Warmer bedding like knit throw blankets or flannel sheets can also be a good way to make your bedroom(s) feel cozier for winter too.
Warm Lighting
I’m a warm lighting girl no matter the season, but it’s especially nice in the winter. Candles, lamps, and even fairy lights can help you achieve this easily. I’m not big on overhead lighting, but using warm light bulbs and/or dimmers can really make a difference too.
Use Window Treatments
Using curtains is a great way to add texture and warmth to your room while still being functional. Drawing them at night adds a cozy element to any room, just be sure to keep them open in the day to maximize natural light.
Simmer Pots
Having a simmer pot going on the stove is a cozy way to make your home smell nice and inviting. You can play around with the ingredients and reuse them over the span of a few days by adding some extra water. All you need to do is add some complimenting scents (apple slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and water for example) to a pot and let it simmer on low for a few hours.
