I used to consider spring my least favourite season. This seems silly to me now as it’s one of my favourites. I think each of the seasons has a lot to offer and there are beautiful things to enjoy about each one. I live in Canada, so spring takes its’ time getting here. While the sun is setting later and we’re sometimes seeing some warmer temperatures in the afternoons, we’re still waiting for spring to truly bloom. To me, spring feels like the perfect time for fresh starts. I’m trying to be more present and so I thought I’d share some simple ways to romanticize spring on a budget. Both for myself, but for anyone else who is also looking for little ways to enjoy the season:
Spend Time Outside
After being cooped up all winter, it feels so nice to spend more time outside. H loves being outside, so we have been going for lots of walks these days! I’ve also started to set up our balcony. We live in an apartment, so outside space is minimal, but I’m so thankful for our balcony. It’s cozy, gets the beautiful afternoon sun, and is very relaxing. We face a lot of trees, so it’s quite peaceful! I can’t wait for it to get a little warmer so we can enjoy dinners out there.
Visit a Farmers’ Market
We haven’t ventured down to our local farmers’ market yet, but it’s something I want to do a lot of this spring. It’s so relaxing to me and H enjoys going too. I think he’ll love it even more this year as he’s that much older! It’s a nice way to support local businesses, eat seasonally, and eat more fruits/veggies.
Do Some Spring Cleaning
I love to do a good deep clean at the start of each season. It feels so good to declutter and clean out areas of your home that often get overlooked. It can also be a good time to rotate your closet and bring forward your spring and summer pieces for the warmer weather.
Make a Spring Playlist
I love making playlists for different occasions. Creating a spring playlist to have on in the background while you cook or clean can be a real mood booster and it doesn’t take a lot of time to make.
Plant Something
I have been researching vertical gardens and I think I’m going to try and do a small “salad garden” on our balcony this year! I can’t wait to own a home with a yard for a big garden, but that’s just not reality right now. I’m really excited about trying to grow a few different vegetables on our patio though along with some herbs and potentially flowers. I think it’ll add some nice colour out there and provide us with delicious veggies! If you have any recommendations on what might grow best, I am all ears!
Treat Yourself to Fresh Flowers
This can be as expensive or affordable as you want. In my opinion, the grocery store can have some beautiful bouquets around the $10 mark. The goal here is to brighten up your home with a pop of colour and make it feel fresh. Nothing says spring more than fresh blooms on the kitchen table!
Try a New Hobby
For me, I’m planning to start gardening as my hobby, but this could be anything you’ve been thinking about trying. Painting, journalling, yoga, knitting; the list is endless! Trying something new can be fun and a great way to learn.
