Gingerbread Cookies

Gingerbread Cookies

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

Gingerbread cookies are a Christmas staple in my opinion. This recipe is the perfect blend of sweet and spicy. I think you’re going to love it!

To make the cookies, you’ll need: butter, brown sugar, an egg, vanilla extract, molasses, ground ginger, ground cloves, cinnamon, salt, flour, and milk. Everything gets mixed together to form the dough. The dough then gets rolled out and cut into shapes using a cookie cutter. They then bake for 8-10 minutes.

  • 3/4 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 Cup Molasses
  • 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 3 Tsp Milk
  • 1.5 Tbsp Ground Ginger
  • 1/2 Tsp Salt
  • 2 Tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/4 Tsp Ground Cloves

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the melted butter and brown sugar.
  • Add in the egg, molasses, and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  • Add in the ground ginger, salt, cinnamon, and ground cloves. Stir until well combined.
  • Slowly mix in the flour and milk, mixing until a dough forms.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface until it is about 1/4 of an inch thick.
  • Use a cookie cutter to cut out desired shapes and place them on the baking sheet.
  • Cook for 8-10 minutes.
  • Let cool 5-10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to finish cooling.
  • Let cookies cool completely before decorating. Then serve and enjoy!

This recipe is really nice as the cookies don’t spread while baking yet they’re still pretty soft. I think they add something fun to holiday gatherings and they taste so delicious too.

This recipe always gets me 15 gingerbread men using my cookie cutter, but depending on what shape you choose, you will be left with more or less cookies.

I just opted to decorate them pretty plainly with an icing pen, but as Hudson gets older, I can’t wait for us to decorate these cookies together. I think it will be so much fun!
