Well, that was a much longer break than I had anticipated. Hi, friends! What went from a planned break between Christmas and New Year’s turned into me hibernating most of the winter instead. It wasn’t my intention to disappear, but I guess I needed more rest than I thought! I’ve still been cooking and baking lots over my break and I have so many recipes I can’t wait to share with you. First being these turkey meatballs.
I developed this recipe months ago in an attempt to add more lean meat into my family’s diet. My boys love beef and would eat it every day if I made it, which tends to upset my stomach if I eat it more than twice a week. I needed a more creative way to get them to enjoy poultry and I immediately thought of meatballs. Now, as excited as I was to give them a try, I expected some pushback from the boys. The complete opposite happened, though! They loved them as much as I did and they have become an almost-weekly staple on our dinner table ever since.
These turkey meatballs are full of flavour, juicy, and make great leftovers. They are so easy to make and we are obsessed. I recently gave the recipe to my mom as she wanted to try them and see if my dad (also a traditional beef meatball guy) would eat them. She agreed that they were so easy to make and raved about the flavour. She has made them a couple of times since and just this week told me she could see herself making them every week for work lunches! My dad enjoyed them too, which is a pretty big compliment.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
These turkey meatballs are full of flavour and so moist! They are a great way to enjoy a lighter dinner without sacrificing taste or texture. They are quick and easy to make too, making them a great choice for those busy weeknights.
Ingredients
1 pound of lean ground turkey
1 egg
1/2 cup of breadcrumbs
1 tsp dried oregano
2 tsp garlic powder
How to Make Turkey Meatballs
Start off by preheating your oven to 425°F.
Next, line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside. I have made this recipe with and without parchment paper, but the turkey meatballs do tend to stick to the baking sheet quite a bit without.
In a large bowl, combine your ground turkey, egg, breadcrumbs, dried oregano, and garlic powder. Mix everything together until well combined.
Using a cookie scoop or your hands, form the mixture into approximately 15-18 meatballs and space them evenly on your baking sheet.
Bake in the oven for 25 minutes and let cool for 3-5 minutes before serving.
How to Serve
We really enjoy these with rice, a Greek salad, and a little tzatziki! The combination is so fresh and satisfying. I love Greek food and this meal has quickly become one of my favourites!
My mom also is enjoying the combo of rice, Greek salad, and tzatziki but she has also made these turkey meatballs with spaghetti too! My parents really enjoyed them this way too so I can’t wait to give it a try.
How to Store
These turkey meatballs will save in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to a week. They also store well in the freezer for up to three months.
